 BACKGROUND
A 1995 community needs assessment identified lack of knowledge about available services and programs as a priority community need. After an extensive interagency and community data collection effort, a hard copy edition of the Garrett County Family Services Directory was distributed in February of 1997. In April  of 1997 the directory was placed online. Relying on the directory database, the GARRETTINFO LINE, an interagency telephone Information and Referral service, has been operational since the spring of 1998. Call 301-334-4998 or 1-800-747-2732, Monday - Friday, 8:30AM-4:30PM.

With the publication of the LMB ONLINE Community Information File, the general public will now be able to keyword search the database to locate information about programs for children and families in Garrett County. "Registered Users" at local agencies will also be able to update their program entries online. This project is supported by a multi-year Federal Family Preservation and Support grant administered by the Garrett County Office for Children, Youth and Families, Inc. Other jurisdictions in Maryland are encouraged to call 301-334-1189 if they are interested in replicating the MD Community Partnerships for Children and Families Local Management Board ONLINE CIF project.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
The Maryland Community Partnerships for Children and Families LMB ONLINE Community Information File pilot project was supported by contributions from Local Managment Boards in Allegany, Somerset, Washington and Worcester Counties. Project staffing is provided through a Federal Family Preservation and Support Incentive Grant awarded to the Garrett County Local Managment Board/GCOCYF.

Staff from the Baltimore City LMB, the Western Maryland Regional Library, Prince Georges Community Foundation and United Way of Central Maryland supplied additional expertise for this collaborative endeavor.

A special recognition for efforts above and beyond the ordinary are due to the team at the Western MD Regional Internet Lab. Student interns Kevin Dunn and Nick Damoulakis melded their technical expertise with a willingness to make (seemingly) endless adjustments to the final product - while in the midst of final exams! THANK YOU WMRIL!
