This is a program, within the Office of the State’s Attorney, which provides court-ordered community service to governmental agencies and non-profit and service-oriented organizations.

This program is an alternative sentencing procedure to assist the Maryland Division of Parole and Probation in handling non-violent offenders.

Community service provides an alternative sentencing to judges.  It can reduce the jail population and enable offenders to continue to meet family, employment, and academic commitments.  Community service utilizes work as a rehabilitation tool and supplies needed manpower to public non-profit organizations and agencies.

During fiscal 1997-98 our program has totaled 364 cases, supplying the County with much needed volunteer help.
