The
State's Attorney's Office prosecutes criminal conduct and seeks appropriate
punishment or rehabilitation of the offender for the protection of the
community.
When
a victim of family violence files criminal charges, the State's Attorney's
Office will prosecute the case for the victim. The victim does not need
to hire an attorney, but the victim should work closely with the State's
Attorney's Office.
After
criminal charges are filed, only the State's Attorney can drop the charges.
